National Park Partners received a grant through the "Centennial and Beyond" program of the National Environmental Education Foundation to support a two-year partnership between the National Park Service and the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. The goal of the project is for the National Park Service to develop programming that engages new audiences from the communities in and around park lands. Through the grant support, National Park Partners developed a walking tour map of historic African-American sites in the downtown Chattanooga area, in conjunction with National Park Service Rangers, and will be hosting an inaugural walk of several of the sites. All are welcome!
