Due to the prolonged government shutdown, the Ranger programs scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday at Moccasin Bend National Archeological District are cancelled - but don't let that keep you from continuing to explore YOUR Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park! National Park Partners is hosting a guided hike on Sunday, January 20th with Dr. Nick Honerkamp, UC Foundation Professor of Anthropology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. We'll follow in the footsteps of those forcibly removed during the Trail of Tears, and learn more about the critical role that same path played in the Civil War Campaign for Chattanooga just 25 years later.
Please dress for the weather and bring water and a folding chair, if you wish. We'll have some brief remarks at the trailhead, then walk the 3/4 of a mile trail to the Tennessee River at Brown's Ferry for an informative program with Dr. Honerkamp. Please help us keep this and our other six units of the Park clean by packing out what you pack in! This program is free and open to the public, with donations to National Park Partners gratefully accepted that will preserve, promote, and enhance the Park's historic and cultural resources.
