Musical Performance + The Co-Evolution of Jazz Music and Indigenous Cultures

The Moccasin Bend Fall Lecture Series is going virtual this year with a unique line up of speakers and participatory experiences with Native American artists.

Using her unique blend of quirky humor and timeless jazz standards, Julia Keefe (Nez Perce) presents a musical overview of the Indigenous influence on music of the 20th Century. From Mildred Bailey to Jim Pepper and beyond, Julia demonstrates that not only are Indigenous people alive, well, and making waves in today’s popular music, but Indigenous voices and influences were imperative to the evolution of jazz and every musical genre that followed.
