Join history enthusiast and NPP Board member Dr. Greg Grant for an easy, four mile historical bike tour on the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway on Saturday, November 21 from 1-3 p.m. This program is offered free to the public through our partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga. The tour will follow the advancement of Union forces under General William T. Sherman from the Tennessee River up South Chickamauga Creek as they move to attack Missionary Ridge during the Civil War. We will also learn about and explore the Cherokee Trail of Tears Crossing of South Chickamauga Creek as well as some of the early railroad history in the Chattanooga area.
This tour is appropriate for ages 15+. Bring your own bike or borrow one from Outdoor Chattanooga for free. National Park Partners covers the costs of rented bikes for this program so that that there is no cost to participate. Bikes are appropriate for riders 5ft or taller. Children must be able to confidently ride a bike for the distance-no training wheels allowed. Helmets are required for all riders.
